Be sure to check out this tutorial to age your bottles so they fit in nicely with your apothecary setting
I love adding more and more bottles to my apothecary setting whenever I get the chance. If you haven’t yet, make sure you check out our tutorial on aging new bottles for your apothecary display. But what makes the bottle after it has been aged is a unique label. Usually the creepier the better. But often times the simple subtle label is what gives it the creepiest nature. So I find myself searching the web for that perfect label for each bottle that I have.
That became a daunting search as so many “free” printable labels are not really free. But the biggest problem for me is quite often the perfect label design that ends up saying “Zombie Snot” doesn’t really do it for me when I’m trying to build a realistic Witch Apothecary setting.
Feel free to use my new line of exclusive “ElsBeth Lair Apothecary Labels” to give you the basic label design and yet offering you to create your own ingredient titles.
These are free printable labels for you to use how you wish. I hope you enjoy them.
My favorite part of decorating is building my apothecary setting. I don’t know why. Some people can’t get enough skulls, I can’t get enough bottles. I love aging them and making them look as though you just walked into the forbidden lair of the country witch. I have just added a tutorial on aging the bottles. Make sure you take the time to watch this you tube so that your apothecary will have all the advantages of being as creepy as possible for this Halloween.
I’ve also included in the tutorial section a line of ElsBeth’s Apothecary labels for you to use free of charge. Please note that I did not include titles on them leaving it so that you can customize them how you would like. If you are trying to make your setting realistic you will most likely want to have a label with a name like Hemlock Powder rather than Zombie Snot. So I didn’t want to limit you by adding my own titles to them.
I hope you can utilize these two tools for your Halloween decorating. It is the little things that really make your decorating stand out above the rest.
What a great compliment I received the other day. I hope you don’t mind if I share it with you. I received a short buzz in my pocket and I knew that it meant it was coming from my Etsy store. Usually when that happens it is someone who just favorited one of my items in the store, or they just placed an order.
But this time as I opened it up, I was welcomed with a notice that I was featured in a blog entitled “13 unique items for Halloween (all from small business owners).”
This is very exciting to me as it shows that my name is getting out there and people are starting to take notice. It featured one of my apothecary cabinets with a link to my store. Just as I had received the notice I clicked on the post to see what it was about. It featured 12 other very fun and cute items from other artists and I got a little tingly when I scrolled through and saw my item.
Right then, I clicked on the link to my store and immediately there were 30 other people that had just entered my store also. How cool is that!
I have to admit that some days I get so excited and busy that I can’t see straight, other days I wonder if it is all worth it. However, when things like this happen, it gives me all the hope in the world to continue on and have fun doing it.
Dealing in Halloween has been a wonderfully, strange experience. I continually meet the funnest, craziest, weirdest, and sometimes creepiest people I have ever met in my life, and yet they have all been the nicest most genuine people I have ever had the opportunity to get to know and to be able to call them my friends.
I find it a great compliment to not only include my stuff in this list, but to also classify it as unique. That is how my wife has described me ever since we met. I hope it was meant as a compliment!
It just boils down to this. I love Halloween and everything about it makes me smile. So why wouldn’t I want to celebrate it all year long?

Thank you Steph, and Happy Halloween
At every Halloween party that we have, we always have some sort of a simple dinner for the kids. With any Halloween party and especially the Witch themed party we wanted to find a special way to carry the theme into the dinner. I had envisioned going to the store and purchasing a cauldron soup bowl for the kids to serve chili in at the party. Yeah, right! Once my search in the stores was in vain I turned to the internet. I actually found a couple but they were discontinued. So to heck with them. I sculpted my own cauldron bowl and cranked up the witch’s oven to a couple thousand degrees and Wahoo! A cauldron soup bowl / candy dish / salsa bowl / or whatever you want to put in it.
This new addition to our store and to our decor line is a ceramic bowl, glazed with a black satin glaze and is totally food safe. I made a mold of the original and am trying to keep ahead of the orders, but each bowl is hand made individually which basically means that it isn’t mass produced and shipped from China, although that would make a lot less work for me.
I love the handmade look and it is purposely made that way to add to the charm of this decorative piece.
Take a look at it in our store and see if it is a perfect fit for your holiday themed decorating.
P.S. Don’t use this for just Halloween. It is perfect to use all during the Fall Season and into the colder months. Plus it works as the perfect pot of gold at St. Patty’s time.
