Well what can I say. I have been working so hard on this project and am so excited that it is ready to offer to that serious Supernatural collector.
About a year ago I noticed that most of the customers that followed my webpage and were lovers of Halloween also were die hard fans of the Supernatural TV series.
I also love the series. It has never been what I consider a scary show, but it has given me my share of being startled out of my wits. I always watch it late at night on my ipad with earphones so I don’t wake my wonderful wife. That is, until the inevitable scene that scares my wife to death as I either scream or jump half out of bed.
From the moment that the “First Blade” was introduced in the show, I fell in love with it and always wanted to have one for my collection. I finally gave in and decided to create one that I felt was a beautiful high quality replica worthy to be included in the best collections anywhere.
I hand sculpted the blade and made change after change as I learned more about the prop and how it was used in the series. I then took the sculpted piece and made a combination silicone and plaster mold so I could pour the replica in a high quality white resin. It was then painted, stained and a leather wrapped handle was added. The handle was very tricky as the leather is basket woven on the one side and hinge jointed on the other. and then aged so as to not look like new leather on an old bone.I hand sculpted the stand to resemble the style of stand shown in the series when it was on display with the men of letters. I made a plaster mold of it and poured it in ceramic and fired with an antique pewter glaze as shown in the two top pictures.
I know of at least 4 changes that the prop department made to it as the seasons progressed. In the beginning it was a shorter blade with not much detail in it. As time went on and the blade was to be on camera more often they ended up lengthening the blade and added more detail to it such as the tribal markings. Not only did it change for more detail shots, but they used less detailed versions during fight scenes. So the version I ended up creating is hopefully the latest version of it that I know of. It is about 19″ in length and I think the blade when first shown on the air was about 16″ in length. Oh how I love meaningless trivia.
Please go to the store right here and check it out. I hope you love it as much I did in creating it.
Happy Halloween everyone!
