I have been away from the key board for several weeks as I had to deal with a home emergency. I live in an older home and we found that the bathroom had been leaking water under the tile for who knows how many years. We ended up gutting the entire room including sheetrock and sub flooring. It has been a nightmare. (Not the good spooky kind.)
Even though I absolutely love the end result, I was surprised at how much I missed being able to get into my studio and create things for Halloween. I found out just how much Halloween has become an integral part of me. I know that doesn’t seem to make much sense. How does a holiday become a part of you?
One night right before I went to bed and after working on the bathroom all day, I went into my studio and lined up all my dolls that hadn’t sold yet and placed them in positions so that I would be able to tell if they moved by themselves or not. Lol. I guess I was getting desperate for something spooky to happen in my life. Nothing ever happened however. They all just waited patiently for my return.
Luckily for me, during that time, the orders didn’t quit coming in. And so I was happy to see items coming off the shelves, but my wife could see that I was getting frustrated with not being able to spend time in my studio. She was trying to help make me happy but she knew I had to create something along the lines of macabre instead of a bathroom.
I was actually giddy the day I got back into the studio and immediately started working on a new doll, Clara the Clown. I knew this doll would end up being a clown as soon as I saw her and I am so happy how she turned out.
I hope that no more emergencies take me away from Halloween again anytime too soon. Life just doesn’t seem complete anymore unless there is something new and macabre waiting around the corner.
Happy Halloween Everyone,
